Your car’s manual should give you recommended intervals for regular, scheduled maintenance items like oil changes. It will also tell you what the mechanic should be looking for when your car hits higher-mileage milestones, such as when the odometer hits 100.000 miles.

If you ask questions based on what you find in the owners manual and keep your mechanic in the loop about your particular vehicle and driving habits, you’ll find your scheduled maintenance visits — and your car — running more smoothly.
